Given a number of discussions and lots of feedback, we should definitely
re-think our decision of naming the project EILF (for Enterprise
Information Logistics Framework). The two main reasons for this:
* hard to pronnounce, in particular for native English speakers
* too long, the acronym should be 3 syllables at most
So, when thinking about it, what should be part of the name?
* INFORMATION because we are dealing with tons of information and try to
mke sense of it
* UNSTRUCTURED information because this is the main focus as opposed to,
say, classical data mining based on RDBMS
* MANAGEMENT because we truely want to manage the information
* LOGISTICS as an alternative to the above (maybe too much empolis-minded?)
* SEMANTICS because one of the main goals is to bring semantic web
technology in as soon as the basic platform is up and running (in fact
Ian Skerret is really keen on having the term "Semantic Web" in)
* ARCHITECTURE because we attempt to establish a new standard architecture
* FRAMEWORK or PLATFORM as alternatives to the above
* SEARCH maybe because this is what most people understand rather than
the fairly abstract (and more general) term of information management
* ENTERPRISE or CORPORATE because we are aiming for the enterprise level
* more?
So, for the acronym we could play with the letters: I-U-M-L-S-A-F-P-S-E-C
Here are some proposals that come to my mind right now:
* FILE = Framework for Information Logistics in Enterprises --- that is
basically re-order the original proposal
* UIM = Unstructured Information Management - well, that's taken already
by IBM's UIMA
* CIM = Corporate Information Management
* SIM = Semantic Information Management
* SWP = Semantic Web Platform, well sounds way too general to me
More thoughts?
Mario.
