It’s been proven many times that open standards and collaborative communities help spur innovation in the market and eliminate barriers to interoperability. The Eclipse Aperi Storage Management Project aims to help the storage industry address these challenges. A project description can be found at http://www.eclipse.org/proposals/aperi/.

The mission of the Aperi project is to create a standards-based, open source storage management framework and to cultivate an open source community for complementary products and services around the Aperi framework. Key objectives of Aperi are to promote interoperability, eliminate complexity, foster innovation, and provide a greater choice and added-value functionality for end-users.

Storage vendors seeking to overcome interoperability challenges in their customers’ storage environments can benefit by joining Aperi to enable their respective offerings through the common Aperi framework either by contributing code directly to the framework or simply by interfacing with it.

Aperi is open to all vendors and individuals who wish to consume, contribute, or learn about its functions. Its platform technology includes an SMI-S implementation and a framework to manage heterogeneous storage devices (file systems, fabric switches, SAN switches, tape devices, disk arrays, and NAS filers). Come see our demo and hear more about benefits to vendors and customers.
