Hi

I have discovered this project "Swordfish" after doing some research on
internet on Dynamic Service Dependency --- after multiple internet hops
from different projects.

My questions are related to service dependency mapping and monitoring.

- Can I use Swordfish (Service Registry?) to query in runtime the dynamic
dependencies between services?

- What kind of information can I get in Runtime (Events related to usage,
performance) from Swordfish

- Can this information be ported out in a simple RSS/XML Feed?

My customers are looking at identifying dynamic dependency between various
services in Runtime, in a large outsource environment, it is difficult to
know what service is dependent on what other services.

Next, they would like to know the performance and availability of these
services in Runtime, which I believe is out of scope for Swordfish?

I am reading from the various docs, that Swordfish might require process
orchestration (BPEL), Is that mandatory to achieve the above two use
cases. Quite frankly, most of the customers are not sophisticated to
adopt BPEL and hence we would like some practical and basic tooling

Hi everyone,

as most of you probably know we¹ve been doing our daily developer chats on a
Skype public chat group for the last few months which proved to be quite
useful for synchronizing our efforts accross multiple locations and making
our progress transparent to the community.

>From the next spring on, i.e. starting on March 9th, we¹ll open a new
chapter and switch to IRC. There are a number of good reasons for this:

1. Open standard: IRC is based on an internet standard protocol, Skype is
not.
2. Automation: IRC can be easily automated using bots, e.g. for
automatically sending out the daily logs.
3. Platform independence: IRC clients are available for virtually any
platform, Skype clients aren¹t.
4. General acceptance: IRC is generally the more popular choice for open
source projects.

For everyone who¹s already on IRC it¹s easy: Just point your IRC client to
irc.freenode.net:6667 and join the channel #eclipse-swordfish-dev.

For everyone who hasn¹t used IRC before, here¹s what to do:

1. Grab a decent IRC client of your choice. For Mac, I recommend Colloquy,
but your mileage may vary.

2. Connect to irc.freenode.net, port 6667, and choose a Nickname of your
liking. If the one you¹ve chosen is already taken, choose something else.

3. Once you¹re connected, register your chosen Nickname with the Nickserver.
In order to do so, issue the following command:
/msg NickServ register <password> <your@xxxxxxxxxxxxx>

4. Check your email inbox for an registration email and follow the
instructions given herein.

5. Now you can join the channel by typing
/join #eclipse-swordfish-dev

Looking forward to seeing you all on IRC soon!

Cheers,
Oliver

Thanks a lot for your answer!

We are using IBM Tivoli MAXIMO Asset Management System (MAM) in
Maintenance System Department to track maintenance- and energy processes
for our pulp and paper plants!

This year we started a project with the goal to focus on cost evaluation
of all task done for maintenance and energy consumption. For this reason
we have to connect our ERP System with MAM-System to get cost-information.

The plan is to start with an easy:-), so called, "Universal Importer
Tool", trying to Extract-Transform-Load data from ERP (with ServiceMix
3.x/4.0). We also have legacy software-systems which should be
integrated too - so I already tried a lot of SCA programming...

However, I am deply comitted to open source, especially OSGi:-))! So I
want to build up this UI-Tool with OSGi-based components.

Got in touch with Swordfish last year when the project proposal sounds
really interesting!!!!

Up to now it's not really clear to me how to combine SCA-bundles,
JBI(ServiceMix)- bundles,... to bring it to work.

First plan: Read data from ERP system (SCA-component) bring it into
ServiceMix, transform data into XML and import this XML file into our
MAM system.
(Just for fun - learn all the features of Swordfish)

It would be very helpfull to get some examples (or guidance)! For my
first plan;-)...

Thanks a lot
Cheers, Chris

I'm interested in a general overview what is possible until now and how
:) Well, I know that one can download a first development release but
until now I hadn't that much time to explore it ;)
