[news.eclipse.platform] Re: Editors opening very slowly on Linux

Hi,

I agree with Igor.

My colleagues and I experimented the same troubles under Ubuntu with gcj or OpenJDK, and the only solution we found was to switch to the Sun JVM...

Hope that helps

Do you see the same problem with SUN or IBM JDK? I am on Ubuntu and have not seen any performance problems running Eclipse using either JDK.

I'm using Eclipse 3.4.1 on Fedora, although colleagues who use Ubuntu have also seen similar issues. Every time I open a new file, it takes a perceptibly long time -- several seconds -- to actually open the editor window. I've tried with an empty .eclipse directory and a fresh workspace and with both GCJ 1.5 and OpenJDK 1.6, and it always happens.

Oddly, for me this is only on my desktop machine; I have no issue on my laptop, which is running the same version of Fedora.

Is this a known problem? Where should I look for suggestions?

Thanks,
