[news.eclipse.platform] Generating extension point XML

Hi,

We have a requirement to generate default configurations for extension 
points and embed the contents into the plugin.xml.

I wonder if there is any support for this - perhaps in terms of making 
programmatic extensions and somehow requesting them to be persisted.

If not and anyone has any bright ideas of how to do this cheaply, please 
do share.
