[news.eclipse.platform] run configuration: "org.eclipse.sdk.ide" vs "org

I haven't figured out the difference in choosing
"org.eclipse.sdk.ide" or "org.eclipse.platform.ide"
as a product to run for an Eclipse Application

except that one comes up with the java perspective, the other with the 
resource perspective (but has the java tooling as well).


perhaps the problem is that my workspace is configured with an eclipse 
sdk as the target for plugin development and all the target plugins are 
loaded.

in any case I find the existence of the 2 product confusing to me.
