Never mind - problem solved!

I had been fiddling with WTP (Web Tools Project, version wtp-SDK-R-1.0.1-200602171228-win32) and obviously this comes with libraries that are incompatible and cause the mentioned errors.

Removing that plugin resolved my issues.
