Hi,

Well as far as I remember people have use a work-around like this in the 
past but IMHO it looks uggly. The real problem IMHO is that your button 
doesn't look native any more and you have to a good UI-Designer to make 
it look good.

Take a look at this project[1] it looks great and provides buttons 
although I don't know if you can place it everywhere you want or only in 
the ribbon.
