[news.eclipse.platform.swt] Re: Screen patches, still occuring?

You are quite wrong!

I am not just for complaining. I have to say I am nagging!
I myself spent huge amount of time promoting SWT
in the past, although I didn't practiced much. I still have once-SWT-enthusiasts
in my mailing list in hundreds! I filed many reports in the past. So I am well
connected to the community. I know the problems and issues very well.
So I am trying to address the core issues. You can consider me in part, as
a lobbist, representing them. I am not here to upset you guys or discredit.
I am trying to convince you guys to have higher priority in fixing this problem.
That's why I even volunteered for testing.

Recently, I have converted three programs. Only a very simple one
has no problem! If this doen't get fixed, my only remaining option is to
move away from Java, abandoning huge amounts codes. Basically,
I have to rewrite them from scratch in C++. As a final act, I
have to NAG a bit more before I can give up finally.

Take this as an example case, make swt great, not a reason to leave.

Isn't it still good enough?

No, it is not good enough to complain and nag on the newsgroups. We have repeatedly asked for an example program that clearly demonstrates the problems you are claiming, and you have repeatedly refused to provide it. You have to understand how this community operates, which you clearly do NOT. Newsgroups are fine for discussion, but if you have a genuine bug you need to either contribute comments to a Bugzilla report or enter a new one with as much detail as possible (including code to reproduce a problem). That is how Eclipse, the community, works; if you don't want to participate in that protocol, you're only going to continue to frustrate those who are here to help.
Finally, your claims that SWT can only be used for simple apps and snippets is BLATANTLY FALSE. There are hundreds of real, productive, complex applications in use today that are built on SWT. HUNDREDS, maybe THOUSANDS. If you continue to make false claims about the technology, I will continue to refute it in an increasingly vigorous manner. The SWT team has developed and continues to support an excellent technology; they are very responsive to *substantiated* bug reports; some of them work very hard on these forums to support the user community. I will not sit by and allow their product to be incorrectly demonized, or for FUD to be spread. When there are legitimate bugs found, they need to be brought up and fixed; but the course of this thread has not followed any reasonable procedure for reproducing or debugging any problem. Until it does, the discussion will continue to stall.
