[news.eclipse.platform.swt] Re: e4 (again..sorry)SWT for native OS should go on even after 5 years

Hi Ivan,

What makes you think that SWT for GTK, WPF, Win32, Carbon, Cocoa will be dropped?

What do we learn from the following:
------------------------------------
- M$ has announced at EclipseCon that it will provide manpower to help
get a good WPF-Port of SWT
- the community together with SWT guys are working on a cocoa port.
- The SWT team is investing time to provide animation support

ONE Part of E4 is to add new "platforms" (and there has to be help from the community to get those running, Steve/McQ clearly stated that it can't be only IBM who pushs things forward in E4).

One more note: E4 is much more than only bringing Eclipse into the webspace. It's going to be a *major redesign* of the eclipse-platform = platform-internals, resources, ... (with backwards compat-layer for legacy code).

Hi,

Sorry... is e4 again.. I think SWT for native OS should go on even after 5 years time.. As what I know.. there's no way AJAX base can catch up native OS control speed.. for critical applications like financial system.. which speed are very very important..our customers will not accept some things which is a bit slow and required mouse.. They need somethings which fast in react and use only keyboard for fast access certain functions. not just some fancy stuff will do.. so.. I believe..
SWT for native OS should go on even after 5 years..and of cause, mixing native and web base ( AJAX ,Flex, Silverlight and etc ) will create a better application...We still need SWT for web of cause..

Thanks again
