and I think we all agree there's no better control suited to show HTML than real Browser like IE, Firefox, ... .

As an end user, I will avoid such programs. It's the arrogance of developers not taking care of end users' mental pains! There are ways we can provide fast interfaces that do not make users wait minutes. You see when I start Eclipse SDK help system, how long should I wait? I best avoid to using it. I rather prefer read comments in source codes.

Does this discussion has something to do with the original problem we are discussing in this thread or are you simply frustrated by the fact that the eclipse-help-systems needs to start a tomcat / jetty to be useable? If you have suggestions how this could be improved you are more than welcome to file bugs and include alternative solutions.

I'm not sure but I think the JDT-Tooltips don't need a server to run they simply display the browser control and push HTML-content directly into it. I'm still convinced that whenever you'll have to present HTML which goes beyond bold/italic you are much better of embedding the browser inside your tooltip.

Am I missing something?

Tom
