[news.eclipse.platform.swt] Gif files

Hello NG,
Is there somewhere a description, which kind of GIF-files are handled 
displayed properly?
Currently I am wondering about the criterias

Porting a project to the Java Eclipse RCP plattform I have several 
MS-Windows bitmaps and icons.
In the RCP toolbar, nothing was displayed. So I have tried to convert them 
into GIF files. Just saving them with MS-Paint was almost useless. 
Converting them with the help of Adobe Photoshop partially worked.
(BMP -> Photoshop ->GIF)
Now I have some GIF images looking nice, some looking ugly(wrong colors, no 
transparency) and some are still not displayed , only the text is shown.
