[news.eclipse.platform.swt] SWT-GTK-linux slowness and a SWT-QT question

Hello,

I'm a happy user of Eclipse since 2.0 or something. I'm used to regulary get nighties etc. and i've been obvesrving the development progress.

The thing that i'm observing is that GTK version is much slower than Motif. I'm using exclipse extensively and the difference is rather big i.e. scrolling of text editor window for big source code happens in almost realtime for motif (i have 1 ghz notebook) but for GTK it's noticeably slower. Opening a preferences window takes few seconds more in GTK than in motif. Selecting another preference sub-screen take less than a second for motif and 2-3 seconds for GTK.

I'm using latest Mandrake and my co-worker is using the recent Redhat and Debian from time to time and that slowness apears everywhere.

If somebody can tell me how can i profile just the gtk-swt binding then i can offer my help - i can spend some time profiling it and hacking
the source to eventualy remove the bottlenecks. I'm too busy to rediscover everything from scratch but if you just tell me how to start then i think i can help.

On the other hand there is no trace of QT version of SWT besides empty cvs directory. Is there a way to get access to it? Any development version (can be in source code) would be great.

Anyway, thanks for a very good tool.

Kris
