[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: ganymede crashes on start

I have FF3 on my linux distro (AntiX 7) and don't have problems starting Eclipse (it's in /opt/firefox3, so it's not "installed" as such). I generally use Sun 6.0 as my jdk of choice.

firefox is on /home/sean/Desktop/firefox

using Sun java 6 ... (works fine for Europa)

I did however manage to corrupt my workspace last week while trying to install/update new plugins. The only fix there was to:

shut down eclipse
delete my workspace/.metadata/ folder
...

Yeah - that's happened to me to in the past :-(

But in this case I'm using a new workspace folder

In fact I've tried creating a new user account and running eclipse from
that - still get the same problem - so it's noting at the indidvidual
user level.

As the error message is about a GUI widget - I wonder if this package
could be the problem...

i gtk-qt-engine - theme engine using Qt for GTK+ 2.x

.. doesn't look like it - I uninstalled it and restarted X - still the same problem....
