[news.eclipse.newcomer] eclipse crashes

I'm running eclipse 3.3.1 on Solaris 8.  It starts up fine. However
if I click on a file in the Package Explorer it crashes with the 
following error:

ld.so.1: /h/users/user/eclipse/eclipse: fatal: relocation error: file 
/h/users/user/eclipse/configuration/org.eclipse.osgi/bundles/96/1/.cp/libswt-gnome-gtk-3349.so: 
symbol gnome_icon_theme_new: referenced symbol not found.\


I've googled the world over and cannot seem to find the cure to my ill.
