[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: Missing Packages in Software Update

Ahh, yes now I see now that the code is already installed. I checked this by compiling a C++ "Hello World" program. I guess the C/C++ package is now included by default with Eclipse. The installation guide I was following must be out of date.

Thanks for your help!
Mike

Sorry, my bad: it was indeed the Europa Discovery Site. Any clues to why there are different package lists in the different versions of Eclipse? Are packages that have been previously downloaded removed from the list?

Yes, I'm pretty sure it hides bundles that you already have installed.

Hope this helps,

I have installed Eclipse 3.3 separately for Mac OS X and Windows XP. I discovered that different packages are available for the different versions, via the Software Updates command. Specifically, when I use the Mac version to access the Callisto Discovery Site, I see two packages

Are you sure you are using the Callisto Discovery-Site? Eclipse 3.3 = Europa => Europa-Update-Site.

that are not shown when I access the same site using the Windows version. The two additional packages are: "C and C++ Development" and "Collaboration Tools".
I require the "C and C++ Development" package for my development work under Windows. Is there a way to make this package visible to my Windows version of Eclipse? If not, can I download it using my Mac version and install it in the Windows version? How?

This dependends on the plugins you need if they hold any platform specific stuff this won't work and I won't recommend it
