| [news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: How to run Eclipse on Vista? |
I just download eclipse classic on to a new vista notebook and tried to to unzip it the vista unzip program said it needed two hours!Make sure that you preserve folder structure when you unzip. The folder you unzipped into should have a number of sub folders.
So then I used cygwin to unzip it in a few minutes. Wow! I wonder what is wrong with the vista unzip program?
Anyway, then tried to run eclipse.exe and recieved this error message in a dialog box:
"The Eclipse executable launcher was unable to locate the companion shared library".
So then I thought something was wrong with either the cygwin unzip or the zip file I had downloaded. So I copied the expanded eclipse directory from my desktop machine where eclipse SDK 3.3 seems to running running fine. I run windows explorer again on the eclipse directory and click on eclipse.exe again and I get the same dialog box!
How do we run eclipse? I thought eclipse was entirely self contained with its own JRE and javac.
Thanks,
Siegfried
