[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: eclipse 3.3 has so many problems!!!!

Jim,

I see.  The maintenance build doesn't seem to include the all in one package that's there for the 2.0 GA build.  That seems a little odd.  I guess the assumption is that the maintenance build is always installed on top of  the GA build but a GA build can be installed all by itself...

I think I have found the problem.  The wrong package was downloaded.  Instead of the real WTP, I downloaded and installed the maintenance package 2.0.1 alone, so it was missing all the goodies that were supposed to be included in the WTP...  Wish the download pages would have more explanations.

anyways, thanks for helping me out.

Jim,

It's certainly understandable to be frustrated.  Try running with -clean -debug and maybe the Error log will provide some useful clues.  There must be a good reason why something that works for most everyone else doesn't work for you...

Ed, I apologize for my tone in the previous post. I was just frustrated
after struggling for a while.

I have been using JRE 5.0 for a long time, in fact, all my apps require JDK
5 to run, so I don't think it is a problem with the JRE version.

Now, I am facing many problems, including the code assistant that gives me
absolutely no context suggestions... any ideas?

Jim,

I'll wager you tried to run something that requires a 5.0 JRE using only a
1.4 JRE. Did you perhaps over look the "What you need section" on the
download page"?
Perhaps it not so nice to point this out, but ask yourself how you would
feel if I worded my response in a way that denigrated your ability to
read? It wouldn't be so nice would it? Consider that feeling the next
time you ask for help...

I was trying to upgrade to eclipse 3.3 and it is having so many problems.

Started off by downloading the JEE editor, and it kept giving me an error
when I tried to open a SQL file.

so I thought maybe JEE editor wasn't the right package, so I went for the
classic (another good half an hour spent trying to download it), and also
got the WTP v2.0.1, but it didn't make a difference. What's more was
that I couldn't even edit WSDL and XSD files any more...

With v3.2 and WTP, there was no problem at all. All I had to do was
double-click the files and it just worked. But now, when I go back to
v3.2, the workspace has already been contaminated by the newer version
and it is showing the same errors as well...

What the hell is with this v3.3 release? it just screwed me up!!!!!!!!
Can someone tell me what's going on?
