[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: Problem with 3.3 M7 and Swing menu bars

I have just upgraded from 3.3 M6 to M7 and now encounter a problem with any Swing program I run from within the IDE where the menus on the menu bar start out grayed-out and the menu bar background is obscured by the menus themselves. If I then move the mouse over the menus they will appear enabled and function normally but the menu bar background remains obscured.

If I run the exact same application from the command line it runs properly and shows no such problems. I also tried reinstalling M6 in another directory so I have both M6 and M7 installed at the same time. If I run the application under M6 it behaves correctly but not under M7 using the exact same workspace and project. I only have one JDK/JRE installed so it can't be getting confused as to which one to run with. I have tried the simplest of test programs that just displays a menu bar and nothing else and it also misbehaves under M7.

Why would M7 have this effect on running a Swing program? I am using Java 6 Update 1 by the way. Is it a known problem? Am I doing something wrong?

Never mind, I figured it out. I had configured M7 to run in Windows XP compatibility mode to try to resolve some other issues. Obviously my application is getting confused as to whether it's running under XP or Vista.
