[news.eclipse.newcomer] set " .png" as splash screen rather than ".bmp"

hi,
  I want to set " .png" image as splash screen rather than ".bmp" image, 
as .bmp images are not transparent.

I have tried a lot but it's not working.

pls tell me what should I do for the same.
