To create a project I use File->New->Project. I select Java Project. After entering the project name I click "Next" and get the "Java Settings" page. I click the "link additional source" link and link in my project sources, add jar files, etc.

We use the Perforce plug-in, but I don't share the project until after I finish setting it up. When I link in the source, it's already been synched to my file system by perforce.

I tried deleting the .externalToolBuilders directory and restarted Eclipse. Same problem, I cannot create a builder named "KPS CSP Plugins main". The only file in that directory is "KPS CSP Plugins main 2.launch" which is the second builder I defined.

I'm out of ideas then. If you can generate a reproducible test case, please do file a bug report in Bugzilla about it. Obviously something isn't right and I suspect it is hiding somewhere in the project or your workspace. Sorry I don't remember everything that was already said, but have you tried starting over with a completely new workspace with a name that never existed and a bare project?

Eric

Yes, that's how this whole thing started, I created a whole new workspace, recreating the project from scatch and the problem persists, so Eclipse is storing this information outside of the workspace. If it's not storing it in the installation directory or the registry, I can't think of anywhere else it would be storing it. At any rate this seems like a serious issue if Eclipse can store information in places that no one can find.

I have filed a bugzilla report, but some people have said they cannot reproduce the problem even though I can reproduce it faithfully on my system.

I had a somewhat related problem. I was renaming a project, and Eclipse started going through its tasks to rename it. After over an hour I figured that Eclipse was stuck in some loop so I killed Eclipse.

I then had the new project name to use, BUT I still had the old project name. All searches through the file system (and Windows registry) produced no hits on the old name, yet it still persisted.

So Eclipse must store some information that is hidden (compressed, encrypted, obstificated) somewhere.
