[news.eclipse.newcomer] problem saving .png and .gif images

I read that eclipse now supports saving .png and .gif files using 
ImageLoader, but I get errors for both formats.  When I try to save as a 
png, I get an unsupported filetype error.  When I try to save as a .gif, 
I get an unsupported color depth error.  Any ideas on how to resolve 
either of these errors?
