[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: Emacs in Eclipse

The only thing that I really miss in eclipse is the ability to drive it *without* touching the mouse. In emacs, my hands never leave my wrist es, or the keyboard. (Like C-s type search sting for current buffer...., or C-sC-w search select current word, or the big one, M-x run a command!) Don't get me wrong, I still use emacs for everything else, it is more then an editor, it is an ecosystem. What eclipse really needs to emacs uses if the emacs-mini-buffer plugin. Something to call any action with just M-x action name.... Now that would be cool.

Eclipse key bindings are VERY configurable - it is quite possible to set it up so that the majority of typical usage does not require the mouse. If you haven't already, take a look at Preferences > Workbench > Keys and set it up so your commonly needed actions are mapped to keyboard shortcuts.
