I don't have an authoritative response, but my interpretation after 
reading this a few months ago is that you can use either a UML Property 
or AssociationClass to model an OWL DatatypeProperty. The reason you 
would want to use an AssociationClass is when you need to represent 
property inheritance in OWL. So one AssociationClass would extend 
another AssociationClass, each of which is stereotyped <<datatypeProperty>>.
