[News.eclipse.foundation] Re: E4 / SWT 4.0
|
Hi Ed, thanks for your speedy response. :-)
I agree with not railing about someone in public, which is why I didn't
cite the Bugzilla entry or name the area in question.
And because the specific scenario occurred quite a few releases ago, and
the particular committer has moved on, it's not a concrete instance to
fix. I will keep your suggestion to contact Boris, just in case I run
into it again.
My main point though was that those of us who more often wear the
"Eclipse adopter/user" hat oftentimes don't know that we don't know all
of the reasons why a committer would reject or ignore something--while
at the same time, the committers might think all those things are
"intuitively obvious". :-) So the committers don't realize that we're
asking for things based on our perspective and not from the perspective
of someone who knows all the ins and outs of the code or architecture.
Thanks,
Lee Anne

Lee Anne,
I totally agree. Folks ought to be able to articulate their thinking.
Just saying no because I'm an expert and my opinions are important isn't
good enough. As you can imagine, given a sufficiently large group,
you're always going to end up with a few "characters" lacking in social
graces. Of course intelligent people will often disagree, but they'll
be able to have a civil discussion about the finer points of the
disagreement...
I'd ask for the specific case you mention, but I don't think it's so
nice to drag someone through the mud in public. Perhaps you'd like to
share the specific scenario with Boris to understand what's going on.
Treating the community with respect is important and if there are
shortcomings, it's good to fix the concrete instances...
