Jeff,

It seems to me that the original proposal was to form a new group but 
that seemed questionable too me because I think the PMC leads (whoe are 
typically also an AC member) should already perform that role.   Being 
against mentoring is like opposing motherhood.  I had to leave the 
meeting before discussions on this subject concluded, so perhaps my 
opinion doesn't reflect the AC's conclusions after I left...
