[News.eclipse.foundation] Why the looong interruptions?

Once in a while my Eclipse (v. 3 on XP; used for java programming) makes
long interruptions. Very long sometimes (minutes..). During these
interruptions Eclipse "freezes" and becomes impossible to communicate
with. I suppose this is a known problem. I would very much apprechiate it
if someone could direct me to a discussion about the it, or otherwise let
me why the problem occurs and why it is so difficult to do something
about. (I have had the same problem with previous versions.) Is there
anything I can do myself to eliminate or reduce the problem?
