SAN JOSE, Calif. - May 1, 2007 - BEA Systems, Inc., a world leader in
enterprise infrastructure software, today announced BEA Workshop 10.1, the
industry's first unified Blended development environment. The release
demonstrates the company's continued progress in executing on its blended
software strategy and helps extend its leadership position in development
tooling.

Combining the company's Workshop for WebLogic® and Workshop Studio products,
Workshop 10.1 is designed to provide a feature-rich, all-inclusive
development environment that can help enable developers to combine the best
of open source and commercial software to build next-generation,
service-enabled applications - the quintessence of BEA's blended strategy
and development model. Today, BEA is delivering on its previously announced
plans to merge its existing developer tools capabilities with the
Eclipse-based NitroX technology, re-branded as Workshop Studio. This
technology came into the company as a part of its acquisition of M7 in the
Fall of 2005 and is the winner of the 2006 "Best Commercial Eclipse-based
tool" award from the Eclipse Foundation.

"Workshop 10.1 is BEA's Blended vision come to fruition and helps developers
build their applications the way they want, using both open source and
commercial products. Blended is already the dominant model in enterprises
and BEA is the first to recognize it," said Bill Roth, vice president of
Tools Division, BEA Systems, Inc. "This release is also significant in that
it once again demonstrates BEA's ability to successfully act on and optimize
the value of its acquisitions, making them an integral part of the company's
product portfolio."

BEA Workshop 10.1 is designed to provide Java Enterprise Edition (Java EE) 5
tooling support to help accelerate and radically simplify application
development. An integrated Object/Relational Mapping Studio can deliver
superior EJB3/JPA, BEA KodoT, OpenJPA and Hibernate tools for Eclipse. The
product also includes the unique AppXRayT technology and WYSIWYG development
capabilities designed for open source and industry standard frameworks
including Java Server Faces (JSF), Struts/Tiles, Spring, JSP/JSTL,
EJB3/Hibernate, Apache Beehive and others to further help simplify
development and increase overall productivity. A full drag-and-drop
integrated development environment (IDE) for building enterprise-class
services on BEA WebLogic Server® as well as a single point of management for
builds, build reporting and build documentation for the open source maven
build system are also new features in Workshop 10.1, showing the
mix-and-match philosophy of blended in action. BEA Workshop also supports
other application servers like those from IBM, JBoss/Redhat, as well as open
source servers like Apache Tomcat.

Workshop 10.1 represents a significant step in the BEA WorkSpace 360° vision
as it is designed to help developers collaborate with architects and
implement the requirements of the architecture through a comprehensive and
extensible development environment. Slated to enter the market throughout
2007, BEA WorkSpace 360° is designed to help fundamentally change the way
that both business and IT professionals collaborate and work individually
across the extended enterprise.
