Thanks for your helpful reply.  I am starting to try developing applications based on RCP.  I found this thread based on searching for the NoClassDefFoundError, and VE is new to me.  I will check it out.

The version I am using, WTP, does not even show Software Updates in the Help Menu.  (I do know what to look for because I'm used to seeing and uding it with RAD and RSA, I just installed the 6.0.1 update to RAD a few days ago.)
I guess the WTP people disabled it for a reason...

I think I may download vanilla EWclipse 3.1.1 as well, and try again.  Is VE always an add-on. or is there anything that bundles it?
