I also found, that Eclipse project Subversive was despite a still rather odd and uncomfortable 2 way installation quite good at creating and maintaining Tags for various project stages or results.
Not done too much branching with SVN yet, but that one should usually handle with care and at a low "dose" with most systems ;-)
