[news.eclipse.technology.alf] ALF adopted by a commercial product

Since December 2007 when it went GA, every copy of the commercial Serena
Business Mashups product that ships contains Eclipse ALF.
ALF provides the eventing, orchestration framework, identity and security
for Serena Business Mashups.
1. For eventing, ALF provides the ALF EventManager, a component that filters
and routes SOA-based events.
2. The pluggable orchestration framework is defined by ALF. ALF does not
specify a particular BPEL engine, but allow users to provide their own
favorite engine. ALF does provide guidance and best practices for
constructing orchestrations that can be triggered by ALF Events.
3. The identity and security infrastructure provides a Relying Party wrapper
for web and web service applications, and an independent Logon User
Interface that implements the WS-Federation Passive Requestor Profile to
support Single SignOn (SSO). ALF also leverages components from the Eclipse
Higgins project, including the Security Token Server (which includes the
Identity Attribute Server and JNDI LDAP Context Provider). The Higgins STS
issues SAML Assertions , which are used for SSO and to convey identity to
all the applications involved in a BPEL orchestration.
