[news.eclipse.platform] add/getAuthorizationInfo and user passwords

Is Platform.add/getAuthorizationInfo the right tool for storing user
passwords?  If so, is there an existing preference page field editor (in
Eclipse or an Eclipse project) that uses add/getAuthorizationInfo instead
of the preference store?

Alternatively, is there a field editor that performs the necessary
encryption to store passwords securely in the preferences store?
