[news.eclipse.platform] Can you recommend some materials for adapting mechanism of Eclipse.

Hi,
    I feel in eclipse adapter pattern is intensively used. So many class 
implement IAdaptable, and AdpaterFactory is also provided. I am not very 
clear about the mechanism of adapters in Eclipse. If you have some material 
you feel like, would you please recommmend them to me?
