[news.eclipse.newcomer] armEvent for a menuItem

Hello Everyone,

I needed to display a submenu for a menuitem at runtime. after googling I came across few terms and need further clarification on them. 

the terms are:
1) ContributionItem
2) ArmEvent

I wanted to know what exactly each one of this does and is there any other way to add submenus dynamically to a menu item.
