I'm going to guess you mean Eclipse 3.2? I don't think there was ever a
2.2.

Hmm, I wonder if this is something that WSBM is doing (inadvertently, one
assumes)? I don't see this behavior in plain Eclipse, and the fact that
there's nothing in Bugzilla would tend to support that. Might be worth
trying to contact WebSphere support.
