[news.eclipse.newcomer] can not see data values when debugging on BlackB

I am trying to debug on a physical BlackBerry (not the simulator).  I am 
able to connect to the device, hit breakpoints and step through code, 
but the debugger can not see the values of any data.

Right now I am having this problem with Eclipse, but I also saw that the 
JDE could not get data values from the device.

Does anyone know how to get data values displayable in this case?
