Hi,
I am also a newbee... I think another alternative is using a product called SwingRCP which I believe allow you to use the Swing components within the RCP framework.

I didn't have a chance to try it, but it looks promising if you don't want to deal with the issues with bridge.
I am a Swing developer, but I must admit that the SWT components look cooler (and certainly more native) on the Windows platform.
