[news.eclipse.newcomer] Re: Update very slow ?

The Install Manager in Eclipse 3.4 supports multithreaded downloads from multiple concurrent mirrors and is therefore much faster than the Update Manager in Eclipse 3.3.

If you don't have a technical reason for staying on Eclipse 3.3, I recommend stepping up to the latest Eclipse 3.4.1.

You may also want to consider an all-in-one bundle such as the Java EE bundle. From there you can update it to include CDT and Subclipse.

Hi!

I tried to update (menu Help / Software Updates / Find and install...)
eclipse (the platform/IDE) several times in recent days/weeks, but always canceled it due to slowness.

Today I tried again and after more than 15 minutes the "Update Manager" dialog says "Searching..." and the progress bar is about 25%.

I have Eclipse platform 3.3.2 on win32 (Sun Java 1.6.0_07-b06).
Otherwise no network problems.

Installed plugins and addons :
- subclipse 1.2.4
- Eclipse C/C++ development tools (why can't the name be copy&pasted simply ?)
- Eclipse CVS Client
- some EMF stuff
- Eclipse XML Editors...
- GEF
- WST Common UI 2.0.2
- XML Schema Infoset Model (XSD) - twice

Are the servers overloaded ?

David
