To be clear, UML2 does support separation of models into several 
resources (via the cross-containment mechanism provided by EMF). RSx 
refers to such resources as "fragments" and provide support for being 
able to determine the parent resource for a fragment (in the absence of 
a bidirectional feature) and vice versa.
