No problem!

By XSD it's referring to the XSD model specifically (and it supports only XML Schema 1.0 not 1.1) The Web Tools project provides an XML Schema editor based on the XSD model. In both cases, you should use the corresponding newsgroup for questions. The Orbit project hosts external libraries reused by Eclipse projects so you might try their newsgroup to see if they have support for Xerces 2.11.

I believe I've already suggested getting the type and testing if the namespace of that type is the schema for schema namespace, i.e., XSDConstants.isSchemaForSchemaNamespace(xsdSimpleTypeDefinition.getTargetNamespace()) is true; if it's not true, ask for the base type of the simple type and repeat the testing until you end up with a type in the schema for schemas.  It sounds like that's the type you want.
