Re: [wtp-releng] 3.10 tag naming convention change

Nick,

As mentioned, I am not opposing to the name change (I also find the maintenance one is pretty long to type). I think the new convention that you have is cleaner but with a slight twist that I still want to keep the R at the beginning. To me, R mean something that is official instead of someone just add a temp tag to their repo. Let's discuss on the next meeting to see if people want to change the existing naming convention and what the new naming convention is if we have decided to change. I'll leave those as is in the server tools repo for the time being.

Regards,
Elson

That was me.

Because the Rs and underscores offend my delicate sensibilities.

Actually, it's just that they're harder to type and needlessly long.

But feel free to move 'em / rename 'em or whatever.

Nick

    Hi all,

I notice that someone has recently added a tag to the servertools repo for Photon called 3.10.0 and created a branch called 3.10.x. This name tag and branch name is different from our naming convention in the past. If we follow our original naming convention, the tag will be as named R3_10_0 and the branch will be called R3_10_maintanence.

I don't recall I have seen previous discussions on changing our tag and branch naming convention in the past (it can very well be I have missed that discussions before). I am not opposing to the change but I just want to make sure this is intentional and the naming convention change has been widely discussed and agreed before.
