Re: [wtp-releng] Smoke Test Request for WTP 3.9.3 M-build

Nick,

I would like for Dali to report. Let me send a note directly to Neil.

Also, this is not RC1- RC1 of WTP 3.9.3 happens in 2 weeks. The RC1 +2 date is 2/13. (This week is only Photon M5.) So there is no rename- you just need to run the promote script. If there was a rename, you would run the promote script without the -s parameter first, to copy the build over to downloads (just in case), then do the rename and run the promote script again with the -s (to declare the official, renamed version). If there is ever an issue, we can copy the original build back to /shared/webtools/committers and then work to fix things. (accidents can happen, especially with the build still turned on.)

FWIW,

Carl, do you need me to run the promote script? If so, please confirm this is how I should run it:

# for http://build.eclipse.org/webtools/committers/wtp-R3.9.3-M/20180125030226/M-3.9.3-20180125030226/
cd /shared/webtools/committers/wtp-R3.9.3-M/20180125030226
cp /shared/webtools/releng.control/renameBuild.sh .
./renameBuild.sh M-3.9.3-20180125030226 S-3.9.3RC1-20180125030226
rm -f renameBuild.sh
cd /shared/webtools/releng.control && ./promote.sh -vdscap wtp-R
3.9.3-M

# -v = verbose
# -d = delete old builds
# -s = send mail
# -c = copy from committers to downloads
# -a = add properties
# -p = projectName/folder

Thanks,

Nick

PS: the reason that commits are not automatically added to submodules is that afaict they never were. I've no idea how/if you were ever automatically updating submodules, but afaict, this is a manual step. Is there some bot that can run a submodules update and push the resulting commits to the repo automatically? Once we move to the new aggregation system (build 8 CI jobs, then composite them to check for changes, & aggregate if changes found) we won't need this since it'll all be driven by git changes.

    Nick, the fix is important for an adopter, but it can wait until RC1 (not RC2 preferably), so we don't need a respin.

    Nick,

    My commit is not important enough to merit a respin. I can't speak for Keith's commit. But my bigger question is- why are these commits no longer automatically included in a later build? What needs to be done now with the WTP build such that a build on any given day includes the latest WTP commits?

    Does it matter that we missed commits in javaee and sourceediting from 9 days ago in the last build from the releng.aggregator's R3_9_maintenance branch?

    javaee:

    *   f796589c5 - (HEAD -> R3_9_maintenance, origin/R3_9_maintenance) Merge branch 'R3_9_maintenance' of ssh://
    canderson@xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx/gitroot/jeetools/webtools.javaee.git into R3_9_maintenance ccc@xxxxxxxxxx (9 days ago)

    sourceediting:

    * a0fd1570e - (HEAD -> R3_9_maintenance, origin/R3_9_maintenance) [529952] Exception when element's type is changed in XSD Editor
    kchong@xxxxxxxxxx(9 days ago)

    ?

    If so, we'll have to respin. If not, we can get these in the RC2 build.
