Re: [wtp-pmc] Hot bugs for 3.0.1

Sorry I missed the call yesterday ... I heard it was more painful than the dental surgery I was getting :)

I'd like to see this 244268 bug fixed for 3.0.1 ... hard to call it "critical" (originator originally did, but I asked him not to, since it didn't result in data loss, etc.) but it does "block" some important scenarios ... In some cases it's might be called "blocking" but, since pretty specific scenarios that seemed like overkill   .... so IF WE RESPIN then we should pick this one up too.

There are two others I'd like to see fixed in 3.0.1 ...
244235 UIEarValidator reporting an error that should be a warning   (awaiting one more PMC vote).

and

https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=243547
the one called "JPA Deadlock ..."

That one is awaiting some testing, but I think the patch there is the right sort of patch, so would like that fix in as we go through final testing next week (assuming it passes it's testing from developers).

My own thought on the general matter is that its' hard to come up with absolute rules about what to accept when, that each case at this point is an exception of some type, and as such each has to be evaluated on it's specific pros and cons. And, I do know if we say "critical only" then people will just open critical bugs :)

I think a future to do item might be to write up better WTP specific descriptions for bugzilla status, that we in WTP want to use ... the generic bugzilla descriptions have some holes and seem hard for people to follow.  Oh, and yes, also re-write/re-work the "hot bug" process ... I'm not sure we are consistent with what that means either.

Hope this helps,

Subject: [wtp-pmc] Hot bugs for 3.0.1

PMC,

There are a couple of new to newish "hot bugs" out there from adopters
who hope to have bugs included in the 3.0.1 release.  For example, this
is a very recent hotbug request for Dali -
https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=244268.  I think this is a
valid hot bug for a serious issue, but per our "hot bug" policy, there
should be some cut-off in a release where only critical issues can be
addressed.
(
http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/adopters/hot_bug_process.html).  This
topic came up yesterday on the WTP call, and I made a judgment that we
were past the cut-off at this point.

Does anyone think that we should be considering non-critical hotbugs at
this point for 3.0.1?  Can anyone make an argument for bug 244268 being
a critical issue, or something we (as a PMC) should consider for 3.0.1.

Thanks,
Neil
