Re: [wtp-pmc] agenda for June 21st, 2005 call

Hi,

Dirk Lemmermann develops his own SVG Eclipse plugin (http://sourceforge.net/projects/svgplugin) and would be keen to give code and support to an Eclipse project.

This raise the question about SVG support inside WTP.

What is your opinion about this support ?

Do you think about creating another incubated WTP component, just like the XSL one ? Or do you think creating an Technology project is better ?

This could be another discussion subject for the audio.

Dominique

PS : Here is the information Dirk gave me about his plugin.

Current scope: the plugin currently provides features to

- view and edit SVG files in an editor with two tabs. The first tab is an XML editor (basically the example XML editor, created by the extension point wizard) and the second tab is a Swing component, which renders the SVG file.

- A different version of this graphical view is used in a 'preview' view.

  - Printing of SVG files

  - Exporting SVG files to JPEG, PDF, TIFF, etc....
- A wizard to create a huge example project filled with SVG files......

  - Help Documentation

Future scope: the plugin should provide

  - the Batik SVG API (for people who want to write plugins on top of WTP)

  - a much better editor with context sensitive help / code assist

 - extension points so that (for example) tabs can be added to the editor

 - an SVG browser (include with Batik, couldn't make it work, though)

Note that we have had a man-power contribution June last (!) year for SVG from Xinjie (see http://www.openvue.net/projects.php?category=1), but up to now, SVG was not really on our radar scope.
