Fw: [wtp-dev] Web Services Explorer functional in WTP 3.0 WST download

Hi Lawrence,

Yes.  We had the idea of running the Web Services Explorer as a WAR outside of Eclipse (bug 89191) but we had been running into a couple of issues and had not been able to spend any more effort to further pursue that.

Back in WTP 2.0, we had added an Eclipse extension point in the WSE when we implemented RFE 176493 (WSE:  Make message/transport stack pluggable - https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=176493).  In addition, the move from Tomcat to Jetty requires the WSE to be packaged as an Eclipse plugin to run in the Jetty engine.  With these two recent development, running the WSE outside of Eclipse is even harder to achieve.  So I think we would just be shelfing that idea for now.  We could revisit that decision if we feel that there is significant demand from the community for this feature to justify re-opening the issue.

We could further any discussion of this issue in bug 89191.

Hi Kathy,

Nice work. An idea was floated a little while ago to host the WS Explorer on the Eclipse site so it can be used stand-alone off of the WTP site. This will provide a nice service from WTP and I hope draw some more traffic to the project. Do you foresee any issues here? (I found bug 89191 [1] that suggests there may be some issues.) I've opened bug 203134 [2] to track this request.

Hi,

We have finished the migration of the Web Services Explorer to Jetty (instead of using Apache Tomcat).  The Web Services Explorer is now functional again starting with yesterday's WTP 3.0 drivers (it was not working in WTP 3.0 M1).  Also, the Web Services Explorer is now fully contained in the WST project package.  You do not need to get both the JST and WST package in WTP download to get the Web Services Explorer functionality.
