Re: [wtp-dev] [Action] Bugzilla house cleaning

Thanks Jeffrey, that's a very helpful link and very
interesting queries.

I'm not sure we have agreement on the procedure, though.

Setting the target:

I know the base platform eclipse doesn't set the target until they
are sure it will be in that target (that might apply to some of our
cases, but I hate to get started setting a target, just to mean "not now").
We should use "later". I know some have objected because that
causes the status field to "resolved". I'd advocate just changing our
queries to included "resolved-later" as meaning "unresolved" to us humans.
From reading the bugzilla help workflow, it sounds like
"resolved later" is a normal state, and we just have to
educated ourselves on how to do our queries.
(And, if we all in WTP agree with this, you could add it to
your query page :)

inbox:

Plus, I'm not sure being in the inbox is a sign of anything, other than
its not being actively worked on ... so, I agree, if it is being work on,
it should go into the assigned state, etc. But .. again, hate to see
people assigning the bugs to individuals, just to mean "has been
triaged" ... I supposed to could see about getting a "triaged"
field, but not sure "untriaged bugs" are anything we need to
worry about right now.
(I checked, and the base eclipse bugzillas have TONS of bugs
in the inbox).
I normally assign to a person when I mean "I think you should look
at this soon, at least to diagnosis ... "  which if we change it to
mean "has been triaged", then not sure

Other opinions?  What problem we trying to solve?

David

[wtp-dev] [Action] Bugzilla house cleaning

Hi team,

We have some house cleaning to do in bugzilla. Here's a laundry list of
what needs to be done:

1. Everyone, please verify and close all resolved bugs.

2. Component leads, please start defering bugs that we are not going to fix
in WTP 0.7. We need to assign a target to these bugs.

3. Component leads, I notice there are quite a few bugs still sitting at
the inbox. They give the impression that nobody is looking at them,
although some of them are already being looked at or even fixed... Let's
get them out of the inbox and assign them to someone.

I've put up a Web page with some bugzilla queries in it that should help
you do this cleanup more easily. Here's the link to the page:

http://www.eclipse.org/webtools/development/bugs/bugs.html

This page is also linked from the main WTP development resource page:

If you have other queries that you want to see, feel free to let me know.

Thanks,
