Re: [wtp-dev] Cool URIs Don't Change

I was so impressed with some of the "common sense" advice this article offers I
turned it into a feature request for some future WTP tooling
(see https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=99724)

Its very good.

[wtp-dev] Cool URIs Don't Change

I'd like to point out the subject article [1] to everyone who is working on the WTP Web site. As we improve our Web site, it is natural to want to refactor it so that the content is arranged more logically. However, the downside of that is we might be breaking links in other sites. This is getting to be an important consideration as the popularity of WTP grows and we include more content that is of interest to more people.

I would therefore like to ask that we preserve URIs as much as possible. We can "refactor" the Web site by providing better navigation aids. Lawrence and I have been looking at creating a site map and better, automatic, navigation bars. We are also following the new Eclipse Phoenix project which might solve this problem for us.

Remember, whenever you change a URI, you are potentially breaking someone, so avoid this unless there is a compelling benefit.
