[wtp-dev] Need your help to do more performance test automation

As we are marching into M5, we need to ramp up our focus on performance. Since we are building a platform here, our tools need to perform well because vendors are going to build products on top of us. If our tools do not perform well, it will affect the performance of the extended products.

As a start, we need to do more performance test automation. We have setup a machine that is dedicated for performance testing. This machine runs performance tests daily and uploads results to:

http://download.eclipse.org/webtools/downloads/performance/performance.php

As of today, there aren't many performance tests added to the build. We need to improve that and commit more performance JUnit tests. May I ask component leads to create at least 3 performance tests per component? They should test the mainstream scenarios for that component. You can probably reuse some of the functional JUnit tests and turn them into performance tests. Here's a document that talks about how to write performance tests:

http://dev.eclipse.org/viewcvs/index.cgi/*checkout*/org.eclipse.test.performance/doc/Performance%20Tests%20HowTo.html?rev=HEAD&content-type=text/html

Feel free to let me know if you have any questions. Also I will volunteer myself to help out on any performance related issues. Whether it's writing performance JUnit tests or reproduce/debug memory leaks/bottlenecks, just let me know.

Thanks,
