[wtp-dev] Re: New Articles process

Ed,

Thx. This is a very satisfactory resolution.

Team, this decision represents a significant change in the course of Eclipse, largely influenced by all your contributions to WTP. Now Eclipse is for Web application developers, and not just plug-in developers.

I'd like to encourage everyone who has posted on article or tutorial on the WTP Web site, or who is planning to do so, to now go the extra mile and polish it into a publishable article for Eclipse Corner. Having a great set of articles about WTP will help build up our user community, and having lots of enthusiastic users is, IMHO, the true mark of success.

Subject
New Articles process

The articles web site is not updated yet but we're putting in a new, more open process to handle article requests, proposals, and reviews. See this bugzilla entry for details: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=84080 .

Under this new process articles will be handled much like code. Requests for new articles will be made in bugzilla under the Community/Articles component, as will unsolicited article proposals. Drafts will be posted there as attachments. Review comments can be done in bugzilla comments or private email as you prefer.

To get the process started I'd like to request everybody who has proposed or is working on an article to please go ahead and open a new bugzilla entry in Community/Articles and attach your latest draft. And then everybody who is reviewing an article can use it starting now for their comments. I know everybody's busy with EclipseCon so after then would be fine. If you would like to see an article on a subject but don't want to write it yourself, you should also open a new bugzilla entry.

Thank you for your patience as we work the kinks out of this new process. If you have ideas about how to further improve the articles submission and review process, then you can use, you guessed it, bugzilla to enter them.

By the way, the scope of Eclipse Corner articles is being broadened a bit to include articles on how developers can use Eclipse for doing things
other than extending Eclipse. This would include tutorials on how to use the tools to build applications, e.g. using WTP to build Web apps or Web services. For background on this change see: https://bugs.eclipse.org/bugs/show_bug.cgi?id=84089 .  If you have ideas about new articles along these lines, please enter them in... well, you know.

Thanks,
--Ed
