[vtp-dev] VTP Development Call Minutes: October 20, 2005

Eclipse Voice Tools Development Call Minutes

October 20, 2005, 11am EST

Attendees:

Joe Oh, Audium
Brent D. Metz, IBM
John Buttito, SandCherry
Michael Greenawalt, TellMe
Andrew Wahbe, VoiceGenie

The call began with a summary of the state of the project. It was noted that development on features planned for the
1.0 release had not begun and that multiple committers have been unable to provide a firm schedule for development on
the project. In light of these facts it was proposed that the release be scaled down to a more containable feature set
surrounding the existing code base and improvement of the execution API. A participant agreed that this appeared to be the
prudent move. Another caller noted that the browser API would be in particular the most important part that they would find
useful. A revised milestone plan draft was said to be a next step and would be sent to the vtp-dev mailing list.

The project status continued with a discussion of a possible move to the Web Tools Project (WTP) following a release. It
was noted that there appeared to be favorable conditions following a release to do this. Benefits were noted, including
increased synergy organizationally with the codebase the VTP already relies on. It was asked if there would be increased
benefits such as JSP compatibility with VoiceXML, but it was explained that the functionality already exists and that
code-wise the functionality from WTP would stay the same. The consensus on the call was that moving to WTP would be a
positive step for the project's evolution. It was noted that the success of WTP could lead to increased exposure for the
VTP.

The browser API was discussed and several problems with the passing of parameters and the UI display were discussed. It was
noted that this code was the least mature in the milestone. Solutions to the problems addressed were discussed and it was
resolved to open a bugzilla defect to track the issue while development progressed in the coming week.

The call ended with a note that the browser API continues to need further testing. One caller noted that their development
team would be evaluating the API to determine its usefullness.
